On July 4, 2013, Colio Estate Wines, Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards, Pelee Island Winery, Oxley Estate Winery, Smith and Wilson Estate Wines, and Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery launched “STOWAWAY 1812.” It is a regional collaborative line of wines commemorating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the Coastal Trails: Sails to See Tall Ships Festival.

History comes to life in re-enactment of pivotal battle
If you are a history aficionado or maybe dozed off during history class while the Battle of Lake Erie was being discussed, a re-enactment of the famous battle will take place on Sept. 2.
Where? Lake Erie, of course.
The historic re-enactment of the battle will take place near Put-in-Bay and honors 200 years of peace with Canada and Great Britain. The celebration begins Aug. 29 and continues through Sept. 2. It is the end of a year-long celebration that began Sept. 8, 2012 with a concert by the Toledo Symphony and harbor illumination.

Poets and storytellers will board the tall ship Sorlandet at Dieppe Gardens next Saturday as part of the Sails to See Festival, Labour Day weekend.
The poets laureate of Windsor and Norfolk County, Marty Gervais and John B. Lee, will be joined by Niagara-region poet Keith Inman and two Windsor writers, Vanessa Shields and Mary Ann Mulhern, on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. for readings and tall stories.

Ahead of next weekend’s visit by three historical tall ships, a sailing vessel that does valuable research on the high seas arrives Monday for a visit to Windsor as well.
The Sea Dragon, a 72-foot sailing vessel, will be docked eight days at Dieppe Gardens. With a mandate to educate, research and report on marine conservation, this is the yacht’s first trip to the Great Lakes.
